Ospreys

The loud whistling cry of the Osprey…typically in March each year…announces the return of the Osprey and the arrival of Spring at Bay Escape. Ospreys typically head south in late August-September—with the adults leaving earlier and the juvies following—leaving a quieter Bay in their wake. During the Spring and Summer, while the Ospreys are in town, they endlessly entertain with their feet-first plunges into the water as they fish (with a typical 70% success rate!).

For those who “study” Ospreys, you’ll notice something “odd” about one of the pictures below: osprey typically maximize aerodynamics by carrying their catch head-first but the one pictured is tail-first!
